
CIFAL PHILIPPINES RAISES AWARENESS ABOUT ROAD SAFETY AMONGST COLLEGE STUDENTS IN THE PHILIPPINES
22 February 2018, Quezon City, the Philippines – The International Training Centre for Authorities and Leaders in the Philippines (CIFAL Philippines) and the University of the Philippines (UP), in cooperation with the Honda Safety Driving Center, organized a practical workshop on motorcycle road safety for students of the New Era University in Quezon City, Metro Manila.
The event was held on 22 February 2018 and is part of the Students on Safety Campus Tour, a one-year initiative of CIFAL Philippines in collaboration with Honda Philippines to raise awareness among youth about road safety risks and prepare them to become responsible drivers.

UNITAR AND ANHEUSER-BUSCH INBEV SIGN PARTNERSHIP AGREEMENT TO COLLABORATE ON ROAD SAFETY
14 February 2018, Geneva, Switzerland – Today, Mr. Carlos Brito, Chief Executive Officer of Anheuser-Busch InBev (AB InBev), and Mr. Nikhil Seth, United Nations Assistant Secretary-General and Executive Director of the United Nations Institute for Training and Research (UNITAR), signed a partnership agreement to collaborate to improve road safety. This public-private partnership aims to significantly tackle road safety and, ultimately, save lives.
To contribute to reduced road traffic deaths and injuries, UNITAR and AB InBev are joining forces to implement a global public awareness initiative and build capacity with local governments and partners. Together, they will bring together leaders across sectors to share best practices and to implement holistic, evidence-based approaches that improve road safety. Activities will include conferences, training workshops, and targeted interventions in countries with the highest death rates due to road traffic.

UNITAR AND CIFAL PHILIPPINES HOST A ROAD SAFETY MULTI-STAKEHOLDER CONFERENCE IN QUEZON CITY
9-10 November 2017, Quezon City, the Philippines – UNITAR, in close collaboration with its International Training Centre for Authorities and Leaders in the Philippines (CIFAL Philippines) and the University of the Philippines (UP), UP National Center for Transportation Studies (UP NCTS) hosted the “Road Safety for Sustainable Cities: A Multi-Stakeholder Conference” in Quezon City, Philippines on 9-10 November 2017.
The conference gathered 151 representatives from national government offices, local government units, academic and research institutions, civil society groups, private transport-related companies, and media members to discuss issues in road safety and responsible road use.

UNITAR AND RACE PARTNER TO ESTABLISH A CIFAL CENTRE DEDICATED TO ROAD SAFETY TRAINING
12 October 2017, Geneva, Switzerland – The United Nations Institute for Training and Research (UNITAR) and the Royal Automobile Club of Spain (RACE) signed a cooperation agreement for the establishment of the International Training Centre for Authorities and Leaders in Madrid (CIFAL Madrid). The CIFAL Madrid aims to provide a range of learning opportunities on road safety management and to facilitate knowledge sharing between public servants and leaders from Spain, Europe, Middle East and Africa.

MEGA MANILA CITIES SHARE ROAD SAFETY BEST PRACTICES DURING CIFAL PHILIPPINES ROAD SAFETY POLICY DIALOGUE
12 July 2017, Quezon City, Philippines – Local transport officials from Mega Manila cities shared their units’ best practices on road safety during a roundtable meeting organized by the University of the Philippines Center for Integrative and Development Studies (UPCIDS) and the International Training Centre for Authorities and Leaders in the Philippines (CIFAL Philippines) in partnership with the UP National Center for Transportation Studies (UP NCTS) and the Department of Transportation (DOTR).

UNITAR AND ETHEKWINI MUNICIPALITY DELIVER A ROAD SAFETY SHOW AT MAYVILLE PRIMARY SCHOOL IN DURBAN
24 March 2017, Durban, South Africa – eThekwini Municipality and UNITAR delivered a Road Safety Show at Mayville Primary School in Durban. Students learned about road safety in an “easy-to-understand format” through plays and activities. Different games and exercises took place to raise awareness about safe crossings, traffic signals, cycle paths, seatbelts in school buses and other means of transportation.

THE ROLE OF ROAD SAFETY IN ACHIEVING SUSTAINABLE CITIES
18 October 2016. Quito, Ecuador. UNITAR, jointly with the UN Economic Commission for Europe (UNECE) and the Secretary General’s Special Envoy for Road Safety, hosted the session titled “the role of road safety in achieving sustainable cities”, which took place in Quito, Ecuador, in the framework of the United Nations Conference on Housing and Sustainable Urban Development (Habitat III) from 17 to 20 October 2016.

CIFAL ARGENTINA PROMOTING A DIALOGUE ON MOBILITY, SUSTAINABLE TRANSPORT, AND ROAD SAFETY
26 September 2016, Buenos Aires, Argentina – CIFAL Argentina, jointly with the Habitat III Secretariat and the Argentine Federation of Municipalities (FAM), hosted the “Urban Morning: Mobility, Sustainable Transport, and Road Safety” to facilitate a dialogue on innovative strategies that advance urban mobility and sustainable transport, as well as measures that improve road safety in cities.

CIFAL ARGENTINA LAUNCHED IN BUENOS AIRES TO PROVIDE CAPACITY BUILDING ON ROAD SAFETY, TRANSPORT, AND URBAN MOBILITY
26 September 2016, Buenos Aires, Argentina – The United Nations Institute for Training and Research (UNITAR) officially launched its 16th International Training Centre for Authorities and Leaders (CIFAL) Argentina. The official ceremony was held at the Ministry of Foreign Affairs with the special participation of the Secretary of External Relations Ambassador Gustavo Zlauvinen and the United Nations Resident Coordinator in Argentina, Mr. Rene Mauricio Valdes, and Mr. Juan Matteo, Executive Secretary of the Argentine Federation of Municipalities (FAM).

THE DECADE OF ACTION FOR ROAD SAFETY – CALL FOR CASE STUDIES
31 July 2013, Geneva, Switzerland. The UN Decade of Action for Road Safety- 2011-2020 aims to reduce the number of deaths from road accidents to 50% by 2020. Based on information on road safety from 182 countries, accounting for almost 99% of the world’s population, 1.24 million road traffic deaths occur yearly.
In this framework, UNITAR’s Training Center -CIFAL Curitiba- with the support of the Inter-American Development Bank (IDB) has launched the “First Call for case studies on road safety for Universities in Latin America and the Caribbean” to promote the academic process of creating, enhancing and deepening knowledge in road safety.
